About Anand Pillay Attorneys, 34 Years of Expertise.

The law firm Anand Pillay and Associates has been in existence for 34 years. Director and founder, Anand Pillay, hails from Dundee and relocated to Pietermaritzburg at the beginning of his matric year, when his dad was promoted to Pietermaritzburg. On April 22, 1985, Anand was admitted as an attorney and commenced practice as Anand Pillay and Associates. He also completed a higher diploma in taxation and a certificate in constitutional law. Having excelled at taxation, Anand lectured income tax law at the University of Natal on a part time basis for two years. A total of 16 candidate attorneys have served articles of clerkship under his guidance and supervision, many of whom are now well established and have their own practices. Two of his former article clerks are now practising advocates — Aneshrin Pillay and Howa Dhoda

Apart from the numerous candidate attorneys and professional assistants who have worked with him, he also has his son Reshen Pillay who works closely with him, and has taken over the management of the practice. Reshen served his articles his dad, and on April 21, 2010 he was admitted as an attorney and has been the most longstanding Professional assistant at Anand Pillay and Associates. Both father and son serve as executive members of Nadel and have attended numerous workshops and conferences to keep abreast of the most recent developments in the legal field.

It has been through sheer hard work and service delivery that the firm has grown from strength to strength and has now become a wellknown and reputable firm in Pietermaritzburg. The firm specialises in criminal law, family law, high court litigation, magistrate’s court litigation, the administration of estates, gaming and liquor licensing law, insolvencies, medical negligence and road accident fund claims. With years of experience and a strong clientele, the firm has now incorporated and will commence trading as Anand Pillay Attorneys Incorporated as from September 1, 2017.

With Reshen having been admitted as a conveyancer and having completed the examination to practise as a business rescue practitioner, the firm will also commence trading as conveyancers and restructuring practitioners. A compliment to the firm is Anand’s daughter, advocate Kerusha Pillay, who practises at the Johannesburg Bar. Anand’s youngest son, Saveshen Pillay, who completed his masters in finance and international banking at the University of Salford, Manchester, practises in the financial field at Rand Merchant Bank in Johannesburg.

Anand’s wife, Dr Sivie Pillay, is the principal of Union Park Primary School and she lectured in the Education honours and masters programmes at the University of KwaZuluNatal.
